God's Promises

Quick post. Quick question.

What is your favorite promise from God? AND if you care to share why, that would be great.

Hi Sheryl,
I have so many but Phillippians 4:6-8, is one that God gave me when I was going through a very difficult time with one of our sons. When I read it my spirit was quickened and I knew that I was to memorize it and to act on it. There is nothing that can take the place of the Peace of God especially when you are going through a storm. And if God in His Word, says it I believe it, if He speaks to my heart I believe it too.
Thank you for allowing me to share it.

Your previous post was so inspiring to me, I am (I know you have heard me say this before) always amazed at your ability to look at the situation in your life and have so much Godly wisdom and insight.

David and Ellie are so blessed to have a Mother that cares as much as you do, and I believe they know it, it showed on their faces in the picture of you all sitting together. Don is also blessed to have you praying for him.

I have learned through the struggles in my life, that God Is always so faithful.

Just about every day I will look out my kitchen window and God sends this bluebird to remind me of how important I am to Him! If He notices him, how much more of value are we.

Blessings to you and your family
Sue

Mmmm, that's an easy one because I have it framed above my kitchen sink. Last year, while we were testing my son, and I was consumed with worry over all of his issues, and questioning why I was chosen to be his mother, (feeling like I was the worst possible choice for him) and feeling so ill-equipped to handle him, and guide and train him... God gave me the following verse.

Isaiah 40:11
"He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young."

It's so easy for me to forget that I'm not in this alone. God will lead MY children, hold them close to HIS heart, and he will lead me too... not only that but he will lead me GENTLY. Oh how I cling to that.

Blessings,
LMM

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I WILL listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you WILL find me. I WILL be found by you," says the Lord. (Jeremiah 29:11-14)

God gave me this verse exactly 6 weeks before the very sudden and unexpected death of my youngest child. I was standing on this promise from God as change for our family situation at the time. Never in a million years would I have guessed or dreamed that the changes would involve something so painful!

I remember one time in particular I was sitting on my porch talking to a friend of mine when I quoted that verse and that I was still standing on the fact that God had to have a purpose for something so hard. She asked me, "How is this good? How is this not evil? How can you still believe that God will bring good out of this?" I didn't have answers to those questions... all I knew is that if I couldn't hold onto the promise of God then I had absolutely NOTHING to hold on to at all.

Sheryl, our "beauty from the ashes" and our "good not evil", typically doesn't end up looking the way we think it should look. The good I thought God was going to bring about would have been something pain free. Ashes happen only after a fire has taken place. God is working His promise out in you each and every day. Every time I read your blog I SEE the beauty from the ashes. I SEE His promise being fulfilled in your life. Keep holding onto His promise, each and every day.

God loves your children so very much. He won't leave them alone in the midst of their hurting. He WILL bring beauty from the ashes in their lives also... believe it!!

I love you dear Sheryl and will be praying for you!

" When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." Isaiah 43:1,2

Sometimes I feel like I am alone in my trials, like I am drowning and I become quite overwhelmed. This promise assures me that God is my Protector and will be with me even when I think that the world is going to consume me.

Sheryl,
Here's a promise I have prayed for my children all through their lives.

"And all your children shall be disciples (taught by the Lord and obedient to His will), and great shall be the peace and undisturbed composure of your children." Is. 54:13 Amp.

I still pray this for them and now for their children too. I have seen God fulfill this promise time and again, in the midst of some very difficult situations!

When I read your blog and hear of the pain your children are facing, I often think of this scripture and have found myself praying it for them too!

God is so trustworthy, and He does fulfill His promises to us! He will do this for you and for your children!!

You're an awesome woman Sheryl, and you ARE a disciple "taught of the the Lord" -- it's evident by the things you share. Your children are blessed to have you as their mom!! Please know that I'm praying for you!

That He will never leave nor forsake me/us.

Does it get much better? It's the source of great confidence and joy and certainty. I can think of nothing in this world to equal it.

Blessings,

There are many promises that I LOVE, but this one has spoken volumes to me in recent times.
Luke 21:15NIV
I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to Resist or Contradict. I Love the way The Message reads too.... I will give you words and wisdom that will reduce your accusers to stammers and stutters.

One promise that I love...it is so hard to choose just one, but I would have to go for Isaiah 41:10 "Do not fear for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you in my righteous right hand."
I tend to be a worrier. This verse gives me such comfort when I feel anxiety creeping in. I know that God is right beside me and I envision him holding me in the palm of his hand.

My favorite....Jn 14: 2In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.

His promise of a place for us!
Love you, sweet sister!

Jeremiah 29:11 (New International Version)

My husband and I hold on to this promise a lot. He's been looking for a new job for a while now and knowing that God has it under control is a huge comfort.

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," has always been my favorite verse.

When I was a kid, it was because of the "power" aspect of it -- I could do anything, because God's on my side.

As an adult, I've come realize it has a lot more to do with weakness than strength. It's only because of God that I can do anything; my strength comes from Him.

EVERY need. Not just monetary, but EVERY need. Love that, and it's so nice to be able to rely on God.

When I was pregnant with my daughter Deena *over 29 years ago*....God gave me a vision, while standing in worship service. I saw my husband standing at the alter with his hands raised *he had on a white shirt* he NEVER wore white shirts back then. He was not a christian at the time. I prayed for him, for 31 years.....two and a half years ago, he gave his life to Jesus. One night, while at the alter, my husband was standing up *I had just had knee surgery, was sitting behind him*. He hadn't been a christian very long. The pastor said "Raise your hands up to Jesus, come on, He is taking count." I heard a still small voice saying "look up". I looked up and my husband was standing at the alter with his hands raised WITH A WHITE SHIRT ON. :-) I just had to share this. It still brings me to tears. NEVER GIVE UP on praying for those you love. NEVER!! NOW, he is praying with me for our son, that he will return to Jesus!! :-D
