It's your birthday and I know I am supposed to be giving you a gift (and I just might), but first I wanted to tell you what a gift you have been to me!
This mom could not have asked for a better son. David, you are a joy!! I know that the past couple of years have been beyond tough. You, however, have grown into such a wonderful, strong, compassionate, loving young man. I could not be more proud.
I mean that. I am proud of you! You've questioned God. I know that. It's not a bad thing to question. But please keep your heart open to Him. I know that you gave it to Him as a young child and I know that He has great things in store for you. One day you will be able to reach those who are hurting. You have a heart that longs to help and to heal.
These 17 years have been such a privilege for me to be your mom. I don't know why God chose to bless me with you, but I sure am glad he did.
You are loved more than I could ever put into words.
Happy Birthday, David! I pray that God blesses you with the best year yet.

- I am a mom to 2 great kids. I am a child of God who is pursuing after Him as I learn to live in my "new normal". Diagnosed with a life altering illness in June of 2007 and the end of my marriage less than a year later, life has taken a new path. One that I am learning to accept and appreciate. As my illness caused me to be basically home bound, my family named the living room couch "my perch". Thus the title of this blog.

I was touched by your letter to your son. My son's birthday was yesterday and his name is David!
I still read blogs from time to time and yours probably the most.
I haven't written a post since March and probably will not write anymore but just haven't had the heart to remove it. And, of coure, there is the possibility that I might feel a desire to write.

My sons are 40 and 36 now, but I still have that same sense of joy at the mere mention of their names, or the passing of their birthdays.
What a precious tribute to your David. One day (or many days) he'll re-read it, and re-read it, and re-read it again because it'll touch him so deeply.
